Rolex 6264 Daytona Panda Newman
Newman Daytonas rarely need any introduction. Identifiable by its art-deco design, Newmans were first released in a pump pusher Daytona case with mainly a three-color dial either in white or black.
But towards the last reference of Newman production in pump pusher cases and before the screw pushers came coincidentally the rarest, the reference 6264. Produced only for one year, other than a black dial a cream two-colored dial, also referred by some as a Panda dial, was the other option. A bakelite bezel was also featured on the 6264’s giving the watch a more contrasting and larger feel. Lastly, the newly referenced was fitted with an improved Valjoux 727 movement.
This example features an immaculate and brilliant two-colored panda Newman dial that is as good as they come. All lumes are superbly bright and fully intact. The watch is featured in a 2.4m serial case that has been lightly polished in the past but retains thick original definitions. The original Mk1 Bakelite bezel is in outstanding condition and free from any cracks. It is paired with an original Rolex 7835 folded bracelet with 271 endlinks, all correct for this 6264 Newman.
Stunning 6264 panda Newman Daytonas rarely appear. Often times, the dials have aged to a warmer hue but this full spec example is as bright as you can expect making this an exceptional example qualified even for the most serious collectors. We will continue to see the Newman cult following grow and become ever so demanding to locate the best candidates for their collections. It is simply why when you refer to blue chips in the vintage arena, a Paul Newman Daytona is always at the top of the list.
