Rolex 1016 Explorer Mk3 Matte

Spanning almost three decades of production, the ref 1016 Explorer has embedded itself as an integral model within the professional Rolex category. Due to its no frills iconic design and 36mm case size, it is the definition of simplistic sport elegance making it a highly desirable choice amongst Rolex collectors - an all occassion piece. This can truly be the one watch collection, a watch for those who know, know.

With its 3,6,9 Explorer dial layout, it’s uniquely its own in the Rolex lineup. Unmistakably emphasized by its rich custard luminous, this particular 1016 Explorer is full of character. It is one of the most impressive aspects of this piece. The matte Mk3 dial is impeccable and the all original patinated luminous is perfectly matching. The 4.09m serial case is in our opinion unpolished. The caseback is engraved with what’s presumed the original owner’s initials “R.C.T.” The watch is matched with an original Rolex CI US rivet bracelet.

Residing in a collection for more than a decade, it was recently uncovered and brought to market again. Before that, a renowned dealer in California surfaced it from a pawn shop.

In an era where exceptional vintage watches are acquired and buried away for good, it’s exciting to allow for another collector an opportunity at such a beautiful specimen again.
