Rolex 1675 GMT Master Mk4
In the late 60’s, Rolex changed from incorporating gilt dials to matte dials for much of its professional series including the Explorer, Submariner and GMT. Although glossy gilt dials are undoubtedly some of the most beautiful dials Rolex ever produced, the matte dials also provided a much more robust dial that is not as susceptible to age and change in environments.
When you generally speak with collectors who decidedly entering the world of vintage Rolex, often a matte GMT is one of their very first references they go towards. The varietal in insert color combination, 24-hour function, historical significance and relevancy to one of today’s most desired model makes it an easy decision for many.
This strikingly beautiful Rolex 1675 GMT Master is a Mk4 variant, the same batch as Marlon Brando’s used in the movie “Apocalypse Now”. Catching a glimpse of the patina on this GMT once makes it difficult unsee it – it’s a rich custard that makes a powerful presence. The slightly faded insert gives it the highly admired “look” that we all hope to seek in a vintage 1675.
This example was recently freshly uncovered. You can argue that matte 1675s are not the rarest of references but with them being one of the gateways to vintage Rolex, the demand for them is enormous – often it’s not until you begin to search, you realize the pool of exceptional examples instantly shrinks significantly.
