Rolex 1675 GMT Master Double Swiss Underline GMT

The world of Gilt GMT’s is filled with a myriad of nuances making them excitingly interesting to collect. In fact, some who venture deep down this rabbit hole can spend an entire career just focusing on this single reference.

This spectacular example happens to be one of those with lots of subtleties featuring a Double Swiss Underline dial. As the name states, there are two “Swiss” markings instead of one that are often seen on earlier examples. Only produced for a narrow serial batch, the year 1963 played a critical part in the transitional phase from chapter to non-chapter ring GMT’s. Multiple dial and case variations of 1675’s was seen during that production period, with this particular variation being one of my favorites.

Details matter and this GMT definitely has all of them that make it special. This particular example is highlighted by the breathtaking glossy Double Swiss Underline dial that’s totally free from any blemishes. Flawless original gilt hands compliment the dial perfectly. The 87x,xxx serial “El Cornino” case shows signs of moderate aging but remains unpolished. It is paired with an original Rolex 6636 expansion bracelet and 80 endlinks with no stretch.

It's a real pleasure to come across such an attractive Double Swiss Underline GMT but more so when the original owner retained all its boxes and paper provenance. It’s most exciting to see the original invoice of $144.95 was paid for this example after the first month in 1965 from a US occupied military zone in North Germany.
