Rolex 5513 Gilt Submariner
It is without a doubt to the most dedicated vintage Rolex collectors, gilt dials rank as some of the most highly desired references in their book. It is also a fact that the 60’s served as a golden era for Rolex, producing some of the most beautiful dials ever created for their professional lines – so much so even today, they are some of the most revered.
The Rolex 5513 Submariner non-chapter gilt dials from the early to mid 60’s was particularly beautiful. The simplistic 2-line depth rating and Submariner layout in gilt print simply pounces off the mirror gloss dial – in sunlight, you better have your sunglasses on. Now, some gilt Submariners during that era have gilt hands and some don’t. Of course, I personally find gilt more attractive but we all know the saying, beggars can’t be choosers.
This particular example has a special aura about it - a charm we all hope to seek in a gilt Submariner. Spectacular case, mirror gloss finish, flawless gilt hands, bright full lumes, beaming gilt print, charming aged insert - what more are you looking for? 1.3m serial unpolished case from 1966 combined with a matching 7206 bracelet also from the same year – It’s all there.
Whether you are a novice or more informed collector with a deeper understanding with vintage Rolex, it’s likely you will end up crossing paths with a gilt dial. There’s so much depth to gilt dials, if you think they’re pretty in pictures, they’re extraordinary in person.
